Abstract


THE FUNCTION OF HÜSN-İ TA’LÎL IN NECÂTÎ BEY’S GAZELLES
Necâtî Bey who has been among mentors of Classical Turkish poem, got the attention of peot-biographers with using local components, proverbs, idioms and preferring Turkish words in his rhyme and redifs (word after the rhyme) frequently and was regarded as melikü’ş-şuarâ (the king of poets) in his time. When the gazelles of Necâtî examined with regard to rhetoric, it is seen that the poet used literary arts and hüsn-i ta’lîl (kind assumption) successfully. Hüsn-i ta’lîl which is fictionalized by creating an imaginary and poetical reason instead of a real reason, reveals the imagination of poet and his poem is not detached from the life. The understanding of wit which is aimed with using hüsn-i ta’lîl by reader, aesthetic pleasure occurs and the poem gains the qualifications of ibdâ (origination) and i’câz (laconic). Necâtî astonishes and humors readers of poet and provides them to over-identify with him while creating this art using the techniques like metaphoring, abstraction, concretisation and nativization. In this study, after determining the couplets in which hüsn-i ta’lîl was used in gazelles of Necâtî and how the poet performed this art and its function; how it affects the reader and the meaning it bring in poem, will be evaluated.
