Abstract


THE IMPORTANCE OF VISUAL ARTS EDUCATİON IN CHILDREN WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER
Support to overcome problems experienced by the children with autism, such as language development, social communication, strange reactions to emotional stimuli, problems in mental development, interest in restricted issues, desire not to change their routines, is mentioned via visual arts education. In 2017, 4 autistic students in the Umut Damlaları Özel Eğitim Ve Rehabilitasyon Merkezi in Hatay Province were investigated by practicing visual arts studies for two months to increase the attention, the ability of abstract thinking and reasoning, to recognize, imitate, and fit into the sequence of colors and shapes in the concept development. In the studies, raising attention by changing the places of various pictures, imitating by drawing the animal sounded, fitting into sequence of the colors and shapes, increasing the ability of communication and collaboration by working together and findings of recognizing the abstract concepts were reached. In the research, it was observed that Visual Arts would contribute to the skills of recognizing, imitating, making a sequence and thinking abstract.
