Abstract


SCIENCE AND ART CENTER STUDENTS’ ATTITUDES AND OPINIONS TOWARDS MUSIC COURSE
The aim of this study is to determine opinions and attitudes of the students who enrolled at Science and Art Center in Elazığ. Study group includes the students who enrolled at Elazığ Science and Art Center. There are totally 210 students in the study group. Quantitative data were collected by using Secondary Education Music Lesson Attitude Scale developed by Varış and Cesur (2012) while qualitative data were collected via semi-structured interview form developed by the researchers. 80 students were interviewed for qualitative part of the study. We tried to determine Science and Art Center students’ views and attitudes towards their Music teachers’ classroom activities. In this context, students’ views on the equipment, instruments, technological devices used by the teachers were investigated. Students’ opinions about the problems they faced at Music classes and the effect of this course on their point of views towards art were also determined. Frequency, percent, mean scores and standart deviation were used to analyze quantitative data while content analysis was used for qualitative data. Study results revealed that students’ attitudes and opinions were positive, but they informed some problems as well. Several recommendations are offered based on the study results.
