Abstract


SPELLING CHANGES IN THE WORD “ASK”
“Ask” is a word of Arabic origin and it means “severe and burning love.” “Ask” is the most popular subject which is narrated by classic poets. So it is possible to encounter this word in any text. Arabic “ısk” has turned into “ask” in course of time. Despite such a change in translation texts “ask” has been preferred to “ısk” ignoring work’s period. We discussed how quoted words in Turkish is reflected to spelling in poet’s works and how the words beginning with “ayın” takes place in dictionaries. After then we examined spelling of in the word “ask” in dictionaries, Ottoman Turkish textbooks and grammer books which is writed by foreign authors. Historical development of in word of “ask” is followed in texts with vowel point from different centuries. As a result of this ısk>ask exchange begins in the 17th century but certain exchange comes true in the 19th century.
