Abstract

Social sciences have an important role in our social life. But, its place and importance in the education system is a debatable issue. Within our education system in the secondary school age; Turkish Language and Literature, History, Philosophy, Sociology, Psychology, Geography, etc. In the field of social sciences, educations are given. In this study, it is aimed to examine the place of social sciences in educational programs within the context of the mentioned courses, to evaluate the students' interest in these courses and to determine what can be done to increase the interest in social sciences. Topics covered in social sciences should not be considered as read-only lessons. In the field of social sciences, it is important to question, identify problems and produce solutions. In this sense, it will be beneficial to carry out the courses with project-based education. Since 2008, in the field of social sciences, projects can be prepared in high school project competitions organized by Tübitak. Each year, more and more projects in the social sciences contribute positively to students' attitudes towards social sciences. Project competitions are considered to be beneficial for our social development in order to increase the importance of social sciences in education.
