Abstract

Feudal system was dominant in medieval Europe. Production in the feudal system was based on agriculture. The rising middle classes in Europe destroyed Feudalism by twin revolutions which were Industrial revolution and the French revolution. In Europe, feudalism was replaced by capitalism, a more efficient and rational system. In this process, Liberalism became the basic modernization ideology of Western societies. It was accepted by all Ottoman intellectuals that the need for social change and the creation of a new society for the emancipation of the Ottoman Empire, as the European countries did. However, after the First World War, the Ottoman Empire collapsed and the reign and caliphate ended. The most effective factor in the 20th century was the economy. The ambitions of Western societies focused on the economy. The newly established Republic of Turkey's elite also had seen that industrialization was the path of civilization. The elites who founded the Turkish Republic realized that the basic and priority condition of economic development was the change of mentality. In this context, the study focuses on the relationship between culture, economy and politics in Turkish society.
