Abstract

The British Classical Economics School was founded in 1776 by Adam Smith. The German Historical School is mostly recognized as a Continental European school, which criticizes the British Classical School. According to the Historical School, a completely different and more comprehensive economic system is required for Continental Europe. The members of Historical School thought that the individual can exist only within the network of social relations. In this respect, German economists opposed the Classical and Neoclassical Economics Schools, which isolate the individual from the society and place the selfishness of the individual at the center of the economic analysis. The Historical School argued that prosperity which is based on selfishness and egoism were not possible. At the end of the 19th century, a sub-discipline called Economic Sociology was born from the roots of the German Historical School. Those who found the Neoclassical theory inadequate conducted studies in this field. In the field of economic sociology in Turkey, there are imprortant names like Ziya Gökalp, Sabri Ülgener, Ahmet Güner Sayar and Cahit Talas. In this study, the relationship between German Historical School and the economic sociology is briefly explained from the perspective of Turkish society. Besides in this study, it is suggested that Turkey is a Third Way country just like Continental European countries.
