Abstract
Toplumların geçmişini oluşturan mitler, efsaneler, metinler, inanç sistemleri, sosyal yaşam biçimleri ve somut olmayan kültürel değerlerinin hepsi o toplumun evrendeki izini ve konumunu ortaya koyan imgelerdir. Mitler, geleneksel olarak yayılan veya toplumun hayal gücü etkisiyle biçim değiştiren alegorik bir anlatımı olan halk hikâyeleridir. Mit, her zaman bir "yaratılışın" öyküsüdür. Bir şeyin nasıl yaratıldığını ve nasıl var olmaya başladığını anlatmaktadır. Mitler; insanın bugünkü durumu, ölümlü, cinsiyetli ve kültür sahibi bir varlık olma özelliğinin yanı sıra doğaüstü varlıkların müdahalelerinden sonra edindiği tecrübelerden de bahsetmektedir. Mitlerden hareketle, kültürler arasındaki ilişkiler de mitolojilerle tespit edilebilmektedir. Mitolojilerdeki mit ve semboller ile dünyanın ve hayatın kökeni, tabiat olayları, tanrılar, efsanevi kahramanlar ve ruhlar hakkındaki bilgiler verilmektedir. Günümüz Türk sanatçılarının eserlerinde de bu semboller, farklı renk, çizgi ve yorumlamayla karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Bu çalışma resim sanatçısı Gülseren Kayalı’nın mitolojide bulunan simge ve sembolleri kullanarak oluşturduğu on eseri analiz edilip yorumlanmıştır.

Abstract
The myths, legends, texts, belief systems, social lifestyles and intangible cultural values that constitute societies' past are all images that reveal the trace and position of that society in the universe. Myths are folk tales with an allegorical narrative which are spread traditionally or transformed by the imagination of society. Myth is always the story of a "creation." It tells us how something was created and how it began to exist. Myths indicate humans’ existing condition as being mortal, with gender and having a cultural entity in addition to their experiences after the interventions of supernatural beings. With reference to myths, the relationship between cultures could also be determined with mythologies. Myths and symbols in mythology provide information about the origin of the world and life, nature events, gods, legendary heroes, and spirits. These symbols also appear in the works of contemporary Turkish artists with different colors, lines, and interpretations. In this study, ten works of the painting artist Gülseren Kayalı which were created by using the signs and symbols found in mythology are analyzed and interpreted.
