Memoirs are a genre much loved by both adults and children. The reason for this love is that people find in them events and situations experienced in the past. Muallim Naci, whose real name was Ömer, presents his childhood memories and the era he lived in with vivid narration in his work "Ömer's Childhood." In this work, the author narrates events from a child's perspective, placing the child at the center of the story. Furthermore, while presenting his experiences, the author connects them to the lives of children and instills a certain perspective on life in them. In this respect, Muallim Naci's work is considered within the memoir genre of children's literature. The author uses a style that appeals to children in their early adolescence. Again, Muallim Naci wrote this work with an objective approach, as befits a memoir, and did not attempt to convey his subjective experiences in a biased way. While sincerely expressing his feelings, the author also offers criticisms at times. When discussing the use of corporal punishment in the education system, Muallim Naci subtly criticizes education based on violence and fear. In this work, written in a very simple language by the author, themes such as family love, happiness, honesty, friendship, and helpfulness are addressed in a way that is suitable for children. While recounting the events in his memoirs, the author provides children with solid role models through exemplary behavior. The author presents his memories to the reader in a structured manner, including details. The introduction, development, and conclusion sections of the work are planned in a way that is consistent with each other. Therefore, the work is noteworthy for both its aesthetic and educational aspects.
