Abstract
Bu çalışmanın temel amacı Gaziantep ilinin İslahiye ilçesinin nüfus özelliklerinin incelenmesidir. Bu amacın gerçekleştirilebilmesi için İslahiye’de nüfusu etkileyen doğal ve beşeri faktörler üzerinde de durulmuştur. Çalışmada temel araştırma yöntemi olarak kaynak araştırması ve saha çalışması yöntemleri kullanılmıştır. İslahiye, Gaziantep ilinin güneybatısında yer almaktadır. İlçenin yüzölçümü 823 km2, nüfusu ise 2015 yılında 65.799’dur. İlçe genel olarak Kahramanmaraş-Antakya grabeni içerisinde yer almaktadır. İlçe merkezi İslahiye Ovası’na yerleşmiştir ve yükselti 500-600 metre arasındadır. İlçe, bulunduğu coğrafyanın tarih boyunca önemli merkezlerinden birisi olmuştur. Verimli bir ova üzerine yerleşmiş olması, tarım ve yaşam için uygun iklim şartlarına sahip olması, zengin bitki örtüsü, önemli bir ulaşım güzergâhı üzerinde yer alması ve tarihi zenginlikleri ilçenin öne çıkan özellikleridir. Ancak, bugün ilçenin ekonomisi tarıma bağımlıdır. Sanayi ve turizm gelişmemiştir. Bu nedenle, ilçe 1990’lardan bugüne nüfus kaybına uğramıştır. İslahiye bugün orta halli bir Anadolu ilçesi özelliklerine sahiptir. Detaylı bilgiler sonuç ve önerileri ile çalışma içerisinde sunulmuştur.

Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of the population in Islahiye, a district of Gaziantep. Natural and human factors affecting the population in Islahiye were also taken into consideration in order to achieve this purpose. The methods of scientific research and fieldwork were used as main methods of the study. İslahiye is located in the southwest of Gaziantep province. It has an area of 823 km2 and the population of 65.799 as of 2015. It is also located in Kahramanmaraş-Antakya graben in general. The city center of İslahiye is situated on Islahiye Plain, of which elevation is between 500-600 meters. İslahiye has always been one of the major centers of the region throughout the history. The highlights of the town, today, are being settled on a fertile plain and major transportation route, having favorable climatic conditions for agriculture and life, rich vegetation and historical richness. However, today's economy of İslahiye is mainly dependent on agricultural activities. The sectors of industry and tourism have not developed sufficiently. Therefore, the district has lost population since the 1990s. İslahiye has middling properties of Anatolian provinces today. Detailed information with results and recommendations is presented in the study.
