Abstract

The Alexander technique is a psycho-physical retraining method. This technique suppresses cut-and-dried reactions and avoids incorrect usage of the body and exposes correct reaction usage with relaxing and reassuring feelings. This technique is developed by an Australian actor Frederick Methias Alexander in 1904. The isometric that starts within childhood and accumulates during stressful life, with the posture required in playing an instrument, can cause neck anc dorsal aches and posture defects unless it is controlled. Alexander technique has become a spesific lecture in many universities around the world and known for being able to help raising the quality of the performances of musicians whether playing an instrument or singing. In this study, the usage of Alexander technique in voice training lessons, specially for right posture, body relaxation and correct breathing features, is emphasized. In consequence of the study, it is seen that Alexander technique is able to help students understand correct posture, body relaxation and correct breathing and can be used as an alternative problem solving method.
