Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to determine the empathy in sports levels of adolescent individuals. The sample group of the study consisted of 100 (66 males and 34 females) high school students, who studied in the 2018-2019 education period. In the study, the survey technique, which is one of the quantitative research methods, was chosen as the data collection method. In the study, the “Empathy in Sports” scale, which was developed by Erkuş and Yakupoğlu (2001), was used. For the analysis of the data collected in the study, SPSS package software was used. The level of significance was regarded as p<0.05.According to the data obtained in the study, it was determined that the empathy tendencies of the participating athletes in the study did not differ in a statistically significant way in terms of gender, age and sports branch (p>0.05). In the study, it was observed that females were more emotional compared to males and athletes who played individual sports had higher empathy values compared to athletes who played team sports. It was also observed that empathy in sports values decreased as the age increased. In the conclusion of our study, it was observed that sports in adolescent individuals did not have any significant effect on empathy levels. We believe that gaining empathy abilities in adolescent athletes will be beneficial in terms of spreading sports to the masses.
