Abstract

Throughout history, since humanity has emerged, one of the issues that societies have emphasized, thought and tried to solve has been a matter of time and measurement of time. Various cultures have created different calendars to prioritize their social values, beliefs and needs to measure this time. Thus, it was possible to divide the time into categories by naming, especially in the realization of agricultural production, time and calendar took an important place. The efforts to measure the time and form a calendar that started in Mesopotamia and Egypt, the region where the first civilizations in the world appeared, continued in Ancient Greece and Rome. The calendars that evolve in the context of agricultural activities and religious beliefs are divided into local calendars and supra-regional calendars with their own characteristics. In this study; The calendars created in the Ancient Greek and Roman world are briefly discussed and their characteristics are specified.
