The efforts to measure the time and form a calendar that started in Mesopotamia and Egypt, the region where the first civilizations in the world appeared, continued in Ancient Greece and Rome. The calendars that evolve in the context of agricultural activities and religious beliefs are divided into local calendars and supra-regional calendars with their own characteristics.
